Professor Sun to deliver the Claude R. Hocott Lecture in Petroleum Engineering at UT Austin2/27/2015 Professor Sun will deliver the Claude R. Hocott Lecture in Petroleum Engineering at University of Texas at Austin on 3/10/2015. The Claude R. Hocott Lectureship in Petroleum Engineering was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on August 10, 1984, for the benefit of the Cockrell School of Engineering. Gift funds were provided by the UT Austin Engineering Foundation of Austin, Texas. The endowment honors Claude R. Hocott, Ph.D. of Austin, Texas, a 1937 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering.

Abstract:
An adaptively stabilized monolithic finite element model is proposed to simulate the fully coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of porous media undergoing large deformation. We first formulate a finite-deformation thermo-hydro-mechanics field theory for non-isothermal porous media. Projection based stabilization procedure is derived to eliminate spurious pore pressure and temperature modes due to the lack of the two-fold inf-sup condition of the equal-order finite element. To avoid volumetric locking due to the incompressibility of solid skeleton, we introduce a modified assumed deformation gradient in the formulation for non-isothermal porous solids. Finally, numerical examples are given to demonstrate the versatility and efficiency of this thermo-hydro-mechanical model. Manuscript can be downloaded in the Publication Section [PDF]. |
